Eight years ago, at EXCEL, my team leader started a lovingkindness journal for our team. In it we wrote each day the good things God had done for us. Sometimes it was something small, like getting our laundry done on time. Other times it was as big as passing an important test. We wrote down anything that God did that day for us to bless and encourage us.

I’ve often struggled to look at the good in life. Sometimes the bad seems so overwhelming. Lately, I’ve been going through one of those time. It had been a long time since I had written in my lovingkindness journal – so I began again. What an encouragement it was to me to begin forcing myself to look past all of the bad, and look at the good.

The word, “lovingkindness” appears in the Bible 30 times, and all in the Old Testament (most of the references are in Psalms). It means, just what you would think it would mean, kindness. All throughout the book of Psalms, David thanks and praises the Lord for His lovingkindnesses.

Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee.

Psalm 63:3

I don’t know if any of you struggle like me, but if you do, I encourage you to try the lovingkindness journal. Write down at the end of each day (or throughout the day) all the good things you can think of. Yesterday, one of my “lovingkindnesses” was that we got to have tacos for lunch!

I pray each of you have a wonderful day as you look and see the wonderful lovingkindnesses of the Lord in your life.
